We spent 9 days traveling through Java, Indonesia with Rachman Reizen as a family with two children (ages 10 and 13), and it was a truly wonderful experience. Everything was organized in a pleasant collaboration: we arranged our own flights and hotels (in consultation with Rachman), and he took care of transportation, planning, and guiding.
We started in Jakarta, then continued to Bogor, where we also visited his daughter and her family in an urban kampong — a unique and insightful experience. After that, we traveled to his homestay, about 30 km outside Bogor (roughly a 1.5-hour drive). The homestay is located in a peaceful kampong, with comfortable beds, clean linens, and a charming back-to-basics atmosphere.
After Bogor, we traveled with Rachman toward Bandung, and then took the train to Yogyakarta.
Rachman is a highly experienced guide who intuitively understands what a family needs. He strikes the perfect balance between being present and giving space. His Dutch and English is surprisingly good, and his choice of words often made us laugh. Our kids quickly bonded with him.
In short: a relaxed and meaningful way to explore Java, Indonesia, with someone who truly helps you along the way, thinks with you, and creates memorable encounters. Rachman is simply a golden guy.
