Costs & booking
For a 21-day trip — our most popular duration — expect to pay roughly €1,250 to €1,650 per person, excluding flights. That includes a private guide and all transport. Looking for something more budget-friendly? We also offer trips with a driver (without guide service) for around €1,000 to €1,400 per person. Prices are indicative and based on a minimum of 4 people — for 2 people, the price may be somewhat higher.
We recommend booking at least 6 months in advance. 9 months is ideal — that way we can secure the best hotels and accommodations for you in time.
A private guide and all transport are included as standard, unless you specify otherwise. For meals: breakfast is almost always included. In remote areas — such as deep in the jungle — lunch and dinner are sometimes included too. Flights are not included by default, but we're happy to arrange them on request.
Yes. Just mention it in your request or through our AI Travel Planner and we'll see what we can arrange for you.
You send a request via the website or by email. We then get in touch via WhatsApp for a quick conversation. After that, we put together a draft proposal that we discuss together. For your final travel plan, you'll get access to our travel portal so you can follow everything in one place.
Usually the same day. We always aim to respond within three working days — depending on how busy things are.
The trip & your guide
Absolutely. You can use our tours as a starting point and adapt them to your preferences, or combine two routes into one trip. Everything is open to discussion.
We work with a network of local guides across multiple islands — so at every destination you'll have someone who truly knows the place. On Java, that includes Rachman. If you're travelling across multiple islands, you'll have a different guide per island. Guides don't fly with you as a rule, unless you specifically request it.
Most guides speak English. On Java — and partly on Bali — our guides even speak Dutch.
Solo travel is perfectly fine. Prices are most favourable from 4 people. The maximum is 10 people — larger groups are possible on request.
Beyond Local is a small, specialized company that exclusively creates private trips to Indonesia. You have direct contact with the travel advisor — no call center, no standard packages. We work with a personal network of local guides who take you to places most travel companies don't know: remote villages, local markets, jungle treks. Everything is tailor-made from start to finish for your group.
A private guide actively accompanies you: explaining history, culture and nature, taking you to special places, and acting as interpreter and local friend. A driver takes you from A to B but doesn't provide commentary or local knowledge. A driver is a more affordable option for travellers who prefer to explore independently. Both options are available at Beyond Local.
Yes, absolutely. Because every trip is fully tailor-made, we adjust the pace, accommodations and activities to suit your group. For families with children we include child-friendly activities and logistics. For older travellers or those with limited mobility, we choose comfortable accommodations and relaxed routes without strenuous treks.
Yes, we regularly arrange honeymoons and romantic private trips. On request we add special touches: a private sunset dinner, flower arrangements in the hotel room, or an exclusive boat trip to a secluded island. Just mention it in your request and we'll be happy to help make the trip extra special.
Indonesia
Yes, as a Dutch national you'll need an e-visa. You can apply easily and affordably through the official Indonesian immigration website (evisa.imigrasi.go.id).
Generally, April to October is the best period. During the rainy season the weather can be more unpredictable, but travelling is still very much possible. For Sumatra — and jungle treks in particular — May to September is ideal due to the weather conditions.
Indonesia is safe for tourists. Be respectful toward local people and their customs. In some regions, Islamic culture is stricter than we're used to — alcohol is not common everywhere and drugs are strictly forbidden in Indonesia. Always look into the local customs of the region you plan to visit.
We travel throughout Indonesia — from well-known islands to the most remote corners. Most popular destinations: Java (Yogyakarta, Bromo, Jakarta), Bali, Lombok and Sumatra (Tangkahan, Lake Toba, jungle trips). But Flores (Komodo, Kelimutu), Sulawesi (Toraja) and the Banda Islands are also part of our offering. Have a specific island in mind? Just ask — we know most places from the inside.
Most travellers choose a trip of 14 to 21 days. With two weeks you can explore one or two islands well. With three weeks you have the space to combine multiple regions without feeling rushed. Shorter trips of 10 days are also possible, but for the full Indonesia experience we recommend at least two weeks.
